Export controls - Priorities and the road ahead

As the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Administration, Mr. Borman is responsible for implementing the Bureau of Industry and Security's (BIS) controls on the export of dual-use and military items for national security‚ foreign policy, nonproliferation, and short-supply reasons. Prior to his appointment as Deputy Assistant Secretary, Mr. Borman served as Acting Chief of the Enforcement and Litigation Division of the Office of Chief Counsel for Export Administration, where he was responsible for providing legal advice to the Export Enforcement unit of BIS.

Mr. Borman entered the Commerce Department in 1992 as an attorney in the Office of Chief Counsel for Export Administration. Mr. Borman received his B.A. in History from Northwestern University, his M.A. from Northeastern University, and his J.D. from New York University School of Law.
